FANS got the full UAAP volleyball season experience as they witnessed the famous on-court attitude of the La Salle Lady Spikers against their arch rival Ateneo in the opening weekend of the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the MOA Arena.
The Lady Spikers’ famous 'swag' came trending once again as they bagged their first win at the expense of the Lady Eagles.
The Swag was indeed the Lady Spikers’ signature which started from former DLSU Lady Spikers star-athletes Michelle Datuin, Aby Maraño, and Michele Gumabao.
Maraño, former La Salle team captain and now F2 Logistics standout, expressed her joy upon knowing that the new batch of Lady Spikers have adopted the attitude.
“Natutuwa ako kasi in-adopt ng mga bata yung swag na yon." Maraño shared that the swag is indeed a huge help for the team to be motivated enough during a game. "Ang nakita ko, naging effective siya for us to play.”
The outspoken middle blocker explained that the swag wasn’t meat to offend or disrespect anyone, especially their opponents.
“Hindi siya yabang-yabang na literal na tina-translate ng mga tao, mga fans na, ‘Ang yabang naman nito.’ Kasi sumigaw ganyan, ganyan. So hindi yon eh. Iba kasi pag naglalaro ka na,” she said on Thursday, after their win over Sta. Lucia in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan.
Maraño, of course, knows what she’s talking about.
She has been in the same position as the Lady Spikers, whose actions would always get negative comments from bashers.
But she revealed that she never did pay any attention to any of the comments. She knows that she only does it for the game and to help boost the confidence and energy of her team.
The beast mode queen shared her piece of advice for the Lady Spikers as they will face a whole new season with their signature swag and, of course, bashers.
“Gawin nilang motivation yung mga bashers to prove them wrong na hanggang laro lang tong mga nakikita niyo na swag na to."
Maraño noted that it really is the swag that the Lady Spikers are most known for.
“Alam nila na kilala na yung La Salle sa swag. Iyon na yung isa sa nasa culture na,” she said. "Gawin nilang inspiration yon to do so much more for volleyball and to perform well para sa La Salle.”
