MORE than a decade ago, Andrei Caracut was just a small-town kid who was lucky enough to steal a photo with Rain or Shine's Gabe Norwood in one out-of-town PBA game.
It was a moment that came back to Caracut last weekend, after the Green Archer standout was snapped up by the E-Painters in the second round of the 2021 PBA Rookie Draft.
The former De La Salle University guard dug up an old photo of him with the PBA star and put it side-by-side with a selfie he took right after the draft. He posted them on Instagram, expressing his gratitude to the team.
Norwood dropped a reply on the comments section, loaded with LOL emojis: "Welcome. Got me feeling old."
Caracut revealed to SPIN Life that the picture was taken more than a decade ago, in his hometown Quezon.
"2008 yun sa Quezon, may game 'yung PBA non," he remembered.
Trying to recall the event from 13 years ago, the former UAAP Rookie of the Year said that a win at a local league got him a seat near the courtside.
"Sakto lang ['yon] kasi nag-champion kami sa isang league, and nabigyan kami nang maayos na seat. Para ma-recognize din," the Lucban native added.
The picture was apparently an omen of good things to come.
"Ito din talaga 'yung team na gusto ko mag-pick sa akin," he said.
Caracut also pledged to continue his hard work so that Rain or Shine can officially sign him up and slot him into the team's roster.
He's also reunited with pal Javee Mocon, who he last shared a court with in high school with San Beda Red Cubs.
"Tagal rin siya hindi nakasama sa court e. Haha exciting nga," Caracut added.
Prior to the draft, the two also shared a few practice sessions and pep talks. Now, they're about to be teammates in the pro.
