IF there’s one person who knows the La Salle rookie Jolina dela Cruz, it’s former team captain Aby Maraño.
As dela Cruz slowly makes a name for herself in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament, Maraño couldn’t be any prouder.
Maraño recalled how impressed she was with the young dela Cruz, who never complained about La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus’ hard training.
“Si Jolina very sweet yang bata na yan, very hardworking,” said Maraño.
With fame and recognition also comes negative comments from some netizens and dela Cruz wasn’t spared.
The beast mode queen, who never backs down from any basher, immediately came to dela Cruz’s defense as the rookie had instantly adapted the famous on-court swag of the Lady Spikers.
“Kung nakikita man nilang nagsa-swag, dahil yon sa nadadala na talaga yung bata sa laro and isa yon sa mga dahilan kung bakit confident siya to play and perform for the team although she’s a rookie,” said Maraño.
As Maraño continues on her way back to the dugout, she shared some advice for the new batch of Lady Spikers.
“Advice ko na maging focused sila, walang magpapadala sa lahat ng challenges. Walang susuko kasi mahaba pa yung season. Maging mapagpasensya sila, maging matiyaga sila sa ensayo,” she said.
Being under de Jesus’ supervision for several years—since her collegiate career in La Salle and now with F2 Logistics—Maraño knows that what de Jesus wants for them is to be better.
She reminded the team that they must embrace his words and all his advice must be taken as motivation.
“Isa-isa lang. Wag silang mapressure about dun sa crown na kailangan nilang i-defend but to enjoy the whole season,” she said.
