Just by listening at the thoughts and opinions of these creators, one can get a glimpse of their personality, their expertise on the subject matter, and their creativity, which in turn could inspire us to set up our own channels and create content.

But in a world full of videos and media online, the challenge of being a newcomer in the scene hoping to make a breakthrough could be a daunting task.

However this doesn't mean that all hope is lost as there are many avenues for a newcomer to explore and here are some tips to help them survive the long and grueling path to be a content creator.

It has to be you

Before one can grace into the scene, identity building is very important and cosplayer and streamer, Kang Dupet mentioned an important food for thought during Eplayment's Project Upload, a workshop for aspiring content creators.

"Don't follow the trends, follow what you're passionate about."

Despite the popularity of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang in the Philippines, Kang admitted that she wasn't passionate about the game and judging at her content, she prefers streaming multiple games.

But besides playing video games, Kang likewise does cosplaying, tech reviews, and song covers, which makes her versatile and multipassionate.

While there has been a debate on whether displaying only one passion-project vs. having a plethora of interests, there's nothing wrong with the latter and this is what songwriter, streamer, and cosplayer Manic Pixie Dani mentioned during the workshop.

"It's ok to be passionate about multiple things," she reflected.

As she went on with the discussions, Dani revealed that having multiple passions diminishes her exposure to burnout, as she isn't bound to overly exert on one specific topic or content.

Diskarte ang kailangan

Just by looking at some of the videos we see online, the possibilities of being overwhelmed by the expensive camera equipment could discourage us to venture into the scene.

However not every form of content requires the best camera equipment as Team Payaman's Dexty MN or Mangkurdie attends to the needs of his peers by using a mobile device. Since Team Payaman would create vlogs, Dexty explained that that kind of content doesn't require the best equipment, but rather the most accessible.

Given what he said, is vlogging that easy? Not really, as the key to a good vlog stems from storytelling.

"Hindi ganun kasimple mag-vlog kase kailangan mo pa rin ng kwento. Exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution," he emphasized.

Besides the narrative part of content creation, Dexty gave some tips, in which he doesn't recommend placing the camera on a low area, with the angles facing upward as this would reveal one's 'double chin' and restricts the overall setting of the vlog.

And while vlogging is one aspect of content creation, there are other modes where one can express themselves such as streaming.

Most streamers tend to flex their high-end PC specs and equipment, but Kang Dupet proved that one's passion and the power of friendship are sufficient as she started her career with a laptop and the support from her peers.

Saying it best in the workshop, she said: "Hindi mo kailangan ng bongga, diskarte ang kailangan."

The importance of a community

While the technical side of content creation is an important factor to consider, one should never overlook the importance of community building, as this would make or break one's success.

The community will always serve as a backbone for content creators, but as one begins their journey, the concerns of having no community support could be in everyone's mind.

So how does one build a community? JV Ruanto, a diehard Pokemon fanatic and editor of Justveryrandom.com explained that connecting to a community requires one to contribute.

In growing the Pokemon community in the Philippines, Ruanto joined and created a plethora of Pokemon groups. From there he would post content to show his commitment.

But he doesn't just randomly post anything as he emphasized during the workshop: "Don't just post, make it relevant, put effort!"

Eventually his passion became a driving force as he created events for the Pokemon community, which brought the most renowned voice actors from the anime series to the Philippines.

And while organizing the events, he revealed that community engagement is more important over profit.

Meanwhile, Kang Dupet also has a say when it comes to building her community and connections.

For those who are slowly making it into the scene, projects from potential sponsors or companies could arise, and if one is desperate to broaden their reach, sacrificing income in favor of exposure could be an important move in growing one's community.

KEEP POSTING

Newcomers in the scene would have one major obstacle: How does one juggle a career in content creation despite having a busy life?

Some might decide to quit their dayjobs to create content but this would be an extremely risky move given the financial strains, hence it is preferred to have a dayjob at the start of one's content creation journey.

And with that in mind comes the overbearing dilemma: When is the best time to post in order to maximize a content's reach?

A deeper analysis from the trends revealed by Wheninmanila.com's Vince Golangco revealed that weekdays (specifically Tuesday) are the best days to post content since people could be spending their time in the office or school, glancing at social media.

While the data would suggest that weekdays are the best, Vince revealed that the best day for newcomers could be anytime, hence his advice: "JUST POST!"

He recommends three posts a day, but depending on one's schedule, this could trim down to a post per day or perhaps a week...but the important thing is: To keep on posting no matter what.

As he explained when revealing the keys to a viral post: "You never know what will trend, just keep posting."

As to why posting a lot is important? For new content creators, quantity is crucial over quality, though keep in mind that good quality also helps.

And of course there are a plethora of tips and advices when it comes to content creation, but overall success requires a truckload of commitment and discipline.

While the initial step could be a tall task, Kang Dupet would give words of encouragement during the workshop saying: "Always trust the process, mahirap mag-start from scratch pero kaya!"
