AS fans cheered their hearts out for Magnolia when it captured the PBA Governor’s Cup title, a group of women felt twice as proud for the Hotshots.
The Magnolia WAGS, who tirelessly supported, encouraged, and prayed for their partners, couldn’t be any happier.
Lori Victolero, the wife of Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero, got a little emotional when she recalled how they got started.
“Sobrang blessed, nag-start kami sa zero, ngayon nakukuha niya unti-unti yung goal niya,” she said during the PBA Press Corps Awards at Novotel in Quezon City a week ago.
Looking back, Lori could only let out a genuine smile as she led the Magnolia WAGS in prayer every game, in victory or in defeat.
“Ay, sobra [ang kaba] lalo na kapag gitgitan na,” she said. “Kaming mga wives and girlfriends sobrang support kami talaga.”
“Lalo na noong finals, talagang nagpe-pray over kami sa kanila. Sabi nga namin sa kanila hindi na kami bibitaw kung ano man ang mangyari,” she added.
As the wife of the head coach, she was also tasked to get to know each of the WAGS and to keep them together.
“Kasi bago kami napunta sa Magnolia, sabi niya [Chito] sa akin na kilalanin mo yung mga wives and girlfriends. Eh ako, sanay ako na manood na ako lang, pero kahit nahihiya ako kinilala ko sila kaya naging close kami,” she said.
Aside from her fellow WAGS, Lori also draws motivation from her husband, coach Chito, especially when negative comments are being thrown at their team.
She can’t help but feel bad when she reads nasty comments on social media.
“Hindi ko kaya lalo kapag sa social media, ang daming haters. Sabi na lang niya [Chito] sa akin na wag ko silang pansinin as long as ginagawa natin ang tama, bayaan lang natin sila,” she said.
Being together for 25 years, Lori could only promise one thing to coach Chito—that she’ll be there for him no matter what, in victory and defeat, and until the next championship.
