FOR eight years, University of Santo Tomas could only watch other teams battle it out in the finals of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
But on Sunday, in front of 14,726 volleyball fans, UST dethroned defending champion La Salle to book a seat in the Finals, the team's biggest achievement to date under the captainship of the unstoppable Sisi Rondina.
Pandemonium erupted inside the MOA Arena as league's No. 2 scorer Eya Laure sealed the win for the Tigresses, who then mobbed Laure in jubilation after the rookie sensation's game-winning spike.
In the press room, Laure, graduating seniors Rondina and libero RJ Rivera, setter Alina Bicar, opposite spiker Ysa Jimenez and middle blockers Caitlin Viray and Kecelyn Galdones were feeling extra triumphant that they performed a rap song before the post-game interview started.
The enthusiastic Tigresses did a rap adaptation of DJ Khaled's "All I Do is Win," whose rhymes they've altered on the fly. They capped their performance by exclaiming their famous rallying cry, "Kami Naman."
Game One of the best-of-three finals is on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
