SUPPORTERS of University of Santo Tomas have launched a fundraising campaign on Saturday to fly in Sisi Rondina's parents to Manila so they can watch their daughter play in Game Two of the UAAP Season 81 women's volleyball tournament championship on Wednesday.
Aaron Rommar Reyes, who leads a group of UST supporters, confirmed that a generous sponsor has already shouldered the airfare of Rondina's parents, while the accumulated funds contributed by fans will be earmarked for their accommodation and other expenses.
“There will be a sponsor for the airfare, while the funds collected will be used for the parents' Airbnb accommodation, food, etc. So Sisi can still focus on the game,” he said.
The UST star couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by this gesture.
Fans of the Golden Tigresses took to social media on Saturday to gather support for the campaign after reading a story about the Rondina family situation on Spin.ph and other sports websites.
“Hindi (sila makakanood). Actually gustong-gusto ko silang manood but unfortunately mas inuna ko ang bahay ko na binili. That’s why walang (budget sa pamasahe),” Rondina explained.
Meanwhile, UST supporters are also planning to fly in Dimdim Pacres and Alina Bicar's parents to Manila from Cebu and Samar, respectively.
"Kung kaya pa ng budget, plan din namin i-fly in ang mga parents ni Dim at Alina," said Reyes.
