UNIVERSITY of the Philippines rookie Louis Gamban made an impact early in his UAAP career, showing off undisputable swag against Ateneo in the UAAP Season 82 men’s volleyball tournament.
The outside spiker out of University of Perpetual Help high school scored 10 points in his debut as UP swept Ateneo, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22, on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.
Down by one, 20-21, Gamban took charge with his own 4-0 spurt to put the Fighting Maroons at match point, 24-21.
Each time he scored, the UP freshman flashed on-court attitude that delighted the crowd watching the game live and the netizens tuning in on TV and livestream.
But Gamban was quick to say he didn’t mean to insult anybody.
“Charot-charot lang po ‘yun. Nag-sorry ako sa Ateneo,” he said.
“Kasama po ‘yun, nasa plano po ‘yun namin nila coach,” he added. “Sa training po kasi kung ano ‘yung tine-training namin, masaya kami sa training.”
Gamban further explained they were just happy to start anew after an eighth place finish last year.
“Masaya kami nagpunta dito parang normal day lang, wala naman kami last year, ngayon kami ‘yung rebound,” he said. “Kami naman sabi nga ng USTe (University of Santo Tomas), baka panahon naman namin.”
