IN A BIG win for GOAT branding, Nike announced that, when the new season rolls in, Jordan Brand’s classic Jumpman logo will appear on the Statement Edition jersey of every team.
Jordan’s famous silhouette will now be stitched on the right shoulder and lower left leg of each of the thirty team’s Statement kits.
Nike is undoubtedly looking at this in terms of positioning Michael Jordan as a universally acknowledged global ambassador of basketball.
“Each season, the Statement Edition designs set the tone for key matchups and are inspired by NBA teams making a bold statement every time they step onto the court — a natural connection to Jordan Brand's namesake and his approach to the game,” it said in a statement.
But not every fan is applauding the branding move.
Especially the fans from teams who had ugly clashes with Jordan during His Airness’ rise to the top.
Fans of the Pistons — whose ‘Bad Boy’ era against Jordan’s bulls was one of the great basketball rivalries of the age — were especially incensed.
Not to be left out, this Pacers fan also chimed in.
Even LeBron James fans got dragged into the issue.
The Jordan-ified Statement Edition jerseys will drop in stores on October 30.
