“UNDAS” is a chance to center yourself in more ways than one. As you remember those who’ve passed, you are able to re-calibrate your perspective on life, re-examine your relationships — past and present. As city life slows down and hectic schedules clear up, time gives way for some much-warranted rest and relaxation. This extended pause from your routine couldn’t have come at a better time — especially with this itinerary in the bag.
LISTEN: Mumford and Sons’ Blind Leading the Blind
Punchy folk rock music could supply a nice wake-me-up kick to your long drives (or your workout playlist, or your everyday commute soundtrack) and this track is no exception. It’s a politically-charged tune reminding us that there are social issues bigger than our own personal woes. Every now and then, we all need that little nudge.
TUNE IN: UFC 244 - Masvidal versus Diaz
Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz are bona fide knuckleheads. That is: they're dudes who have iron chins and don’t mind taking punches to the face. Conversely, they have zero qualms inflicting tremendous amounts of pain on their opponents. Plus, you’ve got much exciting potential in the undercards. Fists will be flying for sure during the Kevin Gastelum-Darren Till and Kevin Lee-Gregor Gillespie matches and we can’t wait.
WATCH: His Dark Materials Episode One
Okay, technically this is still coming on Monday, but we're spending the whole weekend primed for this all the same. HBO brought every facet of fantasy genre in TV to a whole new plane with Game of Thrones. It’s a tough act to follow, but they may have something with His Dark Materials. The all-star cast includes chameleon James McAvoy, the hilarious Ruth Wilson, and multi-hyphen Lin Manuel Marinda. Sure, it’s YA, but this alternate universe (where souls live outside bodies as shapeshifting animal companions) looks like it could be worth a look.
WATCH: Belle Douleur/Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap
Make your way to Cinema ’76 and catch Belle Douleur (R-16) this Sunday, November 4, 5PM. It’s about a young man and an older woman who cross paths and begin a journey together that — little did they know — would change their lives forever.
This flick —which was one of the main features in this year’s Cinemalaya — stars Mylene Dizon and Kit Thompson in a story that may very challenge your preconceptions about love and relationships.
If it’s comedy you’re looking for, Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap (R-16) showing on the same day at 5PM is the way to go. A band of hold-uppers aims to be one thing and one thing only: to be the best thieves in their barangay. Hilarity ensues when things go array and they find themselves in over their heads. The trailer alone should make you chuckle.
LISTEN: Lady Antebellum’s "What I’m Leaving For"
We all need a little bit of cheese from time to time and this track could give you just that. It’s going to make you think about family and the sacrifices (or lack thereof) you’ve put on the line. Putting family first is something we all need to do more, especially as we get back to the swing of things.
