THEY may have settled for runner-up honors, but what matters most for the FEU cheering squad is that they left a mark in the hearts of the people with a Michael Jackson-themed routine in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition 2019.

"The crowd cheered the loudest during our performance, and okay na ako don," said FEU coach Randell San Gregorio. "A Michael Jackson theme will never fail. Matagal din namin kinon-ceptualize yon."

Paying tribute to the King of Pop of the 10th anniversary of his death, FEU pulled off a thriller routine where they performed the singer's iconic moves, such as the Moonwalk, Jackson's signature step from his song "Billie Jean", and the Anti-Gravity Lean, which he always pulled off during "Smooth Criminal".

Their performance got a standing ovation from the crowd.

"We invested [time] on [learning the] dance, and elevated the difficulty by performing faster transitions. Sobrang happy ko lang na na-appreciate ng mga tao yung ginawa namin," said San Gregorio.

The proud mentor, however, disagreed with the final tallies, expecting better results for the squad's performance. Based on the sheets, FEU came second in the dance element with 362 points, while champion National University Pep Squad garnered the highest with 369.5 points.

"Honestly, that just makes the pain deeper. I respect that NU won, they deserve to win, I'm not questioning that, yung sa element lang na 'yon."
