A TRICYLE driver racing on a borrowed bicycle ruled the 2nd Aboitiz Power Tour of Subic on Sunday.
Jason Banate, 22, usually rides mountain bikes but nevertheless did well on a road bike and topped the 90-kilometer race that included a 10-km hill climb at Barangay Mabayo in Morong.
Banate, from Balayan in Batangas, clocked two hours, 27 minutes and 28 seconds, finishing three minutes and 28 seconds ahead of Ricky Calla (2:30:56), while Robert delos Reyes placed third (2:30:56).
It was a huge win for Banate, who placed a dismal 40th in Saturday’s criterium where he registered a time of 55:14, same as the clocking of 66 other riders.
Nora Senn of Switzerland won the women’s road race to wind up with two gold medals in three events.
