THE 2015 triathlon season will kick off with the holding of an aquathlon for newbies and
aspiring youths and the opening leg of the National Age-Group Triathlon (NAGT) series for triathletes in separate venues this January.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Aquathlon will take place on January 11 which will be held at the Philsports in Pasig City, according to the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP).
Open to male and female participants, children aged six to 12 years old will see action in the SuperTriKids (STK), 13-15 aquathletes will be competing in the Youth category while older competitors will be categorized in the Juniors and Adults brackets. Registration for the swim-run event will last until January 5 with fees of P1,800 for adults and P1,200 for STK categories.
On January 25, the opening leg of the grassroot NAGT series will be held at the Sands of Triboa (formerly Dungaree Beach) in the Subic Bay Freeport. The triathlon is an official qualifying event for the 2016 Philippine National Games (PNG). Male and female age groupers who submitted the 15 best times in the Standard Distance (1.5
Km swim – 40 Km bike – 10 Km run) will be the Luzon qualifiers.
Aside from the standard distance, triathletes may also compete in the Sprint race (750 M swim, 20 Km bike, 5 Km run) while 13-15 triathletes may see action in the Mini-Sprint (500m swim, 16k bike, 2.5k run). Team relay competition will also be held in the Standard distance.
Both the PSC Aquathlon and the NAGT series opening leg are supported by the PSC, Gatorade, SPEEDO and Standard Insurance.
TRAP is now accepting participants with registration fees at P3,000, P2,500, P2,000 and P7,500 for standard, sprint, mini sprint and relay until December 31. A P500 increase will be charged in the first three distances and additional P1,500 for the relay for participants who will register from January 1 to 19. Filled registration forms and payments are accepted at the TRAP office and at SPEEDO Concept Stores.
