GILAS Pilipinas and Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone led the speakers in the two-day The Champions Class coaching clinic held at The Bellevue Manila in Muntinlupa City.
The clinic offered a unique environment in which a halfcourt was set up at the hotel’s grand ballroom, possibly a first in its kind in the Philippines.

Gilas and Ginebra assistant coach Richard del Rosario was one of the organizers of the clinic that drew coaches from Metro Manila, nearby provinces, and even from Indonesia and Qatar.
“The Bellevue Manila approached me and asked if we can be partners to conduct a coaching clinic because the owners are really basketball enthusiasts. They explored the possibility. From then on, nagtuluy-tuloy. I was able to talk to the coaches if they were willing to speak and arranged all the schedules,” said Del Rosario.

“’Yung court na we placed inside the ballroom, I feel it’s what is unique about this clinic because we were able to place a halfcourt inside a grand ballroom instead of going to another place na doon magki-clinic.
"The participants here would have the luxury of not only having the clinic by these great coaches but also staying in the hotel like Bellevue. It’s a complete experience for them and so far, it’s going great,” said Del Rosario.
Cone’s defensive philosophies were one of his talking points that kickstarted the event on Monday, while Gilas deputy and Far Eastern University coach Sean Chambers discussed some of the drills that he is employing with the Tamaraws.
Sports psychologist Dr. Rodel Canlas, Ginebra assistant coach Kirk Collier, and NLEX coach Jong Uichico will also speak in the clinic’s final day on Tuesday.
“Right now, gusto na nga mag-plano ng Bellevue for the next one. But most probably, we are looking at the calendar, we can hold it on a weekend. Now, it’s a weekday, medyo difficult for the other coaches to participate especially those who are working also.
"But again, we are planning and hopefully, this won’t be the last. Hopefully, it will grow at makatulong pa. Ang thrust nito is helping coaches,” said Del Rosario.
