THREE months before the kickoff of UAAP Season 82, University of the Philippines jumpstarts its preparation with The Great UP Run, a fundraising event aimed to support lesser popular sports.
Varsity teams in badminton, baseball, softball, chess, fencing, football, judo, poomsae, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, lawn tennis, table tennis, men’s volleyball, beach volleyball, and women’s basketball will be the beneficiaries of the fundraising event. Only the UP Men's basketball and women's volleyball have sponsors now.
Spearheaded by RUNRIO Inc. and nowheretogobutUP Foundation Inc. (NTGBUP), The Great UP Run, which will be held on August 11, has a P600 registration fee for 3K, P700 for 5K, P800 for 10K, and P1,100 for 21K categories.
The organizers aim to attract 3,000 participants who can register online at https://www.runrio.com/race/the-great-up-run and at Olympic Village stores in TriNoma, Fairview Terraces, Market! Market!, and Alabang Town Center.
Registration at UP College of Human Kinetics will be upon approval as of posting time.
The run will begin at sundown at UP Diliman and cover the outer roads of the UP campus. Expected to participate are all UP varsity athletes, students, faculty from different campuses, and the UP alumni.
The event will end with a concert featuring homegrown UP artists and is the first of many yearly events meant to sustain all of the university's varsity teams.
