TAAL Lake Yacht Club Commodore Peter Capotosto and Carla Kramer reigned supreme in the Hamilo Coast Regatta, the kickoff leg of the six-stage Philippine Inter-island Sailing Sailing Foundation Inc. series, over the weekend in Nasugbu, Batangas.
The Capotosto-Kramer tandem beat out seven other teams racing on 16-foot catamarans at Hamilo Coast.
“Of all the different types of boats in the world that are competitive and in the Olympic classes, we chose to sail the Hobie 16s here in the Philippines because it’s very good beach that is good for our islands,” Capotosto said.
“I would call it a Filipino-sized boat so it’s not like basketball where you’re disadvantaged from the start,” he added.
It was a huge win for Capotosto-Kramer as the series goes to their home Taal Lake Yacht Club for stage two, the RTV Regatta, on November 23 and 34.
Dubbed the AboitizPower: Cleanergy Travelers Series, the racing season holds the Kawayan Cove Regatta, the third stage, on November 30 and December 1, followed by the Punta Fuego stop on January 25 and 26, the fifth leg tentatively set at Anvaya Cove February 8 and 9 and the Anhawan Interport Iloilo-Guimaras race as finale from April 4 to 6.
