REYNEL Hugnatan has been playing professional basketball for like forever, having started out in 1998 as a member of the Negros Slashers in the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA).

Two decades later, Hugnatan is still going strong.

Still a force to be reckoned with for the Meralco Bolts in the PBA, Hugnatan made his 40th birthday a memorable one as the Talisay City-born forward scored 19 points in the Bolts’ 111-81 win over San Miguel.

Not bad for the second oldest in the league after Asi Taulava, right?

Asked how he is able to stay in top shape for this long, Hugnatan credited a disciplined diet that mostly consists of vegetables of any kind.

“More on vegetables ako, salad. Kahit ano, basta gulay, basta green,” said the long-haired veteran.

“Nagkakanin din ako, carb, pero morning [lang]. Rice sa morning. After that, more on salad, chicken, isda,” he said.

At 40, Hugnatan said he has no plans of retiring anytime soon.

“Basta I try my best na maging healthy lang. Kung kaya pa, kung ‘yung mga teams gusto pa ako, at least ready lang ako,” said the left-handed big man.
