San Sebastian confident of drawing record field for fifth Stags Run

Jan 23, 2015

HEEDING Pope Francis’ message of mercy and compassion, the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Manila will hold its 5th Stags Run on Sunday.

The run will be held at the Rajah Sulayman in Baywalk, Roxas Boulevard and will help fund missionary works in Africa.

"This is our way to show mercy and compassion, the message our Pope Francis conveyed during his recent visit to the Philippines," said San Sebastian rector president Fr. Christopher Maspara.

"That is why we encourage our community and our friends to help us in our cause by joining," he added.

Rev. Fr. Joel Alve, San Sebastian's vice president for student welfare and overall chair of the race, said he expects the annual event, which starts at 6 a.m. and divided in 3k, 5k and 10k categories, to surpass the 4,000 runners who raced last year.

“We intend to match, if not surpass, the more than 4,000 participants who attended in 2014. This way, we shall be able to sustain the implementation of our pastoral ministry and missions, we also expect that this will be more fun as we are having our very first color run," said Alve.
