PERSONALITIES from the world of sports joined the uproar after a Congress committee voted to deny media giant ABS-CBN's bid for a new franchise on Friday.

After weeks of deliberations, the House Committee on Legislative Franchises voted 70-11 to junk the consolidated bills which would have granted the embattled company a fresh 25-year franchise to resume broadcast operations.

The move has serious implications on Philippine sports.

A lot of major leagues like the UAAP and NCAA have broadcast partnerships with ABS-CBN, which carried most of the games at ABS-CBN Sports and Action.

Manny Pacquiao's MPBL, the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), and MMA outfit ONE Championship also have partnerships with the media giant.

No wonder sports personalities were left aghast by the junking of the television station's bid for a fresh franchise.

Former volleyball star turned TV host Gretchen Ho led the uproar on Twitter.

Volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez, the top attraction of the PVL, had just one word for the historic turn of events.

Several athletes soon weighed in.
