FOR the first edition of the SPIN Pet Project, we give you volleyball star Aby Maraño’s fur babies.
If the national women’s volleyball team captain is known for her 'beast' mode on-court, she’s the complete opposite at home with her cats Kemerut, Kempular, Kalurkey, and Kinembular.
She loves to cuddle with them, kiss them, and treat them as her babies.
Her first cat, Kemerut, is a Persian semi-long hair while her second cat, Kempular, is a Scottish fold from Ukraine.
Kalurkey, a cross breed between a Scottish fold and a British long hair, is Kempular’s baby and Kinembular, is a Bengal cat.
Tyang explained that cats gives her so much joy and having them close to her relieves all her stress.
“Yung cats kasi kaya ko siya napili maging pet kasi malambing sila,” she said. “Yung love na papakita mo sa kanila and care ibabalik nila yun sa iyo kahit ano mangyari.”
Although it requires much effort to take care of the cats, Tyang doesn’t mind at all. There are litter boxes where the cats will poop and pee.
“Marunong sila magtabon ng mga ano [dumi] nila and nasa instinct ng mga pusa na pag nakakita sila ng ganoon [litter box] parang yun lang yung CR nila,” she said. “Hindi yung kalat-kalat sa bahay.”

Her tight schedule as a volleyball player requires Tyang to sometimes go out of the country for a month for tournaments and training.
While she’s away, it’s her boyfriend, NorthPort rookie Robert Bolick, who takes care of their babies.
“Nakakatuwa kasi nakikita mo nagiging responsible na rin kahit sa pet lang,” she said. “Nakakapag-practice-practice na rin ng pag-aalaga.”
Bolick, it turned out, also had something to do with the naming of the cats.
Tyang also shared that one of the reasons why she named her cats that way is to see how Bolick would speak in gay language.
