The NBA is back, baby!
It’s only been a handful of games and you can already tell that the NBA 2019-20 season is going to be crazier than ever. There are just so many epic matches to look forward to, especially with the insane roster upgrades from many of the teams. Can AD-LeBron live to the hype and revive the glory of showtime Lakers? Are the Clips the new kings of the court? Will the Warriors at least make the playoffs? Rockets: real contenders? Zion?
Yes, we’re all about to lose our minds and that’s going to happen each week. In between tuning into games (on FB Live for now, though expect a TV deal to be announced soon), here’s what else you can do this weekend.
LISTEN: Kanye’s new album Jesus Is King
Kanye? With a full-on gospel/rap album? The man who made Yeezus goes full-on Jesus in his newest release, which hit streaming sites just today. Say what you want about the man, but Kanye West is hip hop. He meshes gospel and grooves an 11-song, 27-minute forehead bopper with exciting keys and uplifting gang vocals. This is undisputably your weekend jam.
BINGE-WATCH: Living With Yourself
Living With Yourself may be a bit of a stretch for some, but its blend of comedy, surrealism, as well as a pinch of drama and sci-fi creepiness serves more than just shallow ha-has. Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, the same minds who brought you Little Miss Sunshine and Ruby Sparks, bring their trademark quirky humor — and it just might be what you need to detox on Netflix this weekend.
LISTEN: Frank Ocean’s new single “DHL”
His first new song since 2017, Frank Ocean layers on the chill with "DHL." Have you heard that hook yet? It’s smooth, it’s got flow, and it's got a lot of ambient distortion that just works. And that’s just one song. Go on, put it on repeat — this DHL delivers on every level.
BINGE-WATCH: Kingdom Season 1
Now that Kingdom’s season 2 premiere date has just been announced, it’s time to get up to speed on Netflix’s acclaimed Korean zombie costume drama.
Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker makes box office history today and becomes the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time, raking in over $788 million worldwide. The spot was previously held by Deadpool. Are anti-heroes what get the people going (to theaters, that is)?
WATCH: The NFL’s New England Patriots
Lose the NBA for a little while, and spend some time on getting reacquainted with the action on the gridiron. Specifically, the New England Patriots. We’re all aware that Tom Brady is the GOAT. He’s been defying the laws of Father Time and making gridiron magic throughout his epic career. But, what is really separating the New England Patriots right now from every other squad is their defense — only allowing 6.9 points and 223.1 yards. They are still undefeated and that could very well be their storyline all season.
