THE SM Mall of Asia Arena unfurled its new centerhung jumbotron that serves as a scoreboard and LED display, among others, in line with management’s desire to improve the viewing experience of fans.
Called ‘The Cube’, the centerhung was manufactured by Daktronics, who had similar projects in NBA arenas such as Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, Madison Square Garden in New York, and Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The jumbotron measures 176 square meters, bigger than the previous one which was at 138 square meters. The main LED display has a high-resolution of 672 x 1344 pixels. The top ring measured at 30 square meters has a 168 x 5548 pixels, while the bottom ring which is at 18 square meters has a 168 x 3024 pixels.

SM Mall of Asia management said the new LED display is capable of displaying game statistics, video replays, split-screen functionality, multiple text and video frames, and live fan cams at the same time.
‘The Cube’ was formally revealed by SM on Wednesday prior to Game 2 of the UAAP volleyball finals.
SM Mall of Asia general manager Arnel Gonzales said the new LED display is part of upgrades at the venue that was actually in the works since after the venue’s hosting of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
World-class entertainment
“We are more excited for the fans to continue to enjoy world-class entertainment and sports right at our venue in a more immersive and digitally versatile environment. That is something that our audience wants to see and experience,” said Gonzales in an interview with reporters after the unveiling of ‘The Cube.’
“It’s main highlight is actually the 4 meters by 8 meters per side screen that we have and then ‘yung 30 meters of the top ring and the 18 meters bottom ring. All can be utilized using the state-of-the-art software that controls it centrally. We would be able to manipulate the screen for versatile layouts,” added Gonzales.
“For example, for a game, you can have live feed, statistics, game scoring, advertisement, even fan cams ongoing while the game is engaged… Hindi siya pixelated, it’s 4K, it’s 200 trillion colors that is capable. It’s one massive experience,” said Gonzales, who described the upgrade as shifting from an iPhone 10 to an iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Plus.
"Let's put it this way. Kung sanay ang tao ng naka-word lang 'yung mga teams playing, now, we have the capacity to put videos, logos, and make it move as it goes throughout the game. It's very excited," said Gonzales.
Gonzales said the venue is ready to host top-class events including the coming FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship in September using the new LED screen.
“We are anticipating that because of how fans gets immersed in volleyball, particularly men’s volleyball, we wanted to bring that excitement inside the venue, and further enhance it. We are ready to whatever it is that the FIVB will concoct in terms of their creativity to be able to bring that massive experience to life at the venue,” said Gonzales.
