A couple of months after it was reported that new Slam Dunk material is coming April next year, the manga series' creator Takehiko Inoue confirmed the release of an illustration book on Twitter.
Inoue recently posted a visual of Plus/Slam Dunk Illustrations 2, which is said to packed with over 130 artworks that weren't in the award-winning artist's first compilation, 1997's Inoue Takehiko Illustrations. This will also feature 11 never-before-seen drawings — including the Hanamichi Sakuragi cover — exclusively for the book.
Slam Dunk, which started out in Weekly Shonen Jump and was adapted into an animated series, tells the story of protagonist Sakuragi, the Shohoku High School basketball team, and their quest for the national championship. The landmark Japanese sports title gained a cult following in the Philippines after it was dubbed in Tagalog as part of the weekday afternoon anime block.
We're keeping our fingers crossed that Plus/Slam Dunk Illustrations 2 will be available in the country, the same way we're still hoping for an animated Inter High arc.
