COACH Roger Gorayeb, who barely misses a game in his almost three decades of coaching, took a day off recently to mourn the death of his loyal pet, Huck.
On Saturday, the veteran mentor was absent during San Sebastian’s game against Letran in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Huck was Gorayeb's beloved dog for 11 years.
“Bye HUCK my ever loyal doggie, run free with your love MIMI,” Gorayeb posted on Facebook. “Thank you for the happiness that you gave us for the last 11 years we will miss you we love you.”
Jewel Bermillo, the libero-turned-assistant coach, pinched hit for the long-time SSC coach and did not disappoint.
The Recto-based squad denied the Intramuros-based team, 20-25, 25-22, 27-25, 26-24.
Bermillo shared that their win somehow eased the pain of coach Gorayeb.
“Sobrang saya ni coach," said Bermillo after the game. "Hindi niya akalain na mananalo kami. Tinanong niya kung sino mas magandang laro, ano nangyari sa game. Sabi ko, lahat naman coach, gumana. Nag tulungan silang kaya nanalo 'yung team. Dahil doon, ang pinaka-reward sa amin ni coach, wala kaming training sa Monday.“
