TWO months after he was hospitalized, seasoned coach Roger Gorayeb is now on his road to recovery.
The multi-titled coach, who has 46 titles with San Sebastian College — 11 juniors, six men’s, 23 women’s, and six women’s beach volleyball — in the NCAA, had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
Former SSC star Grethcel Soltones confirmed the good news on Tuesday during the NCAA All-Star at the MOA Arena.
“Nakauwi na po noong isa araw po ata or two days ago tapos medyo ok na siya,” said Soltones, who considers Gorayeb as her second father.
“Nakakapag-chat na siya, nag-message ako sa kanya sabi ko, ‘Tay pagaling ka.’ Tapos nag-reply siya ng heart,” she added.
Soltones plans to visit Gorayeb in the coming days, and the multi-titled coach can look forward to her song number just for him.
“Sobrang happy syempre road to recovery na siya. Pupuntahan ko siya, bibisitahin ko siya, kakantahan ko siya. Aaaahh!” said Soltones, trying to hit a falsetto.
Meanwhile, Soltones led Team Saints as they survived Team Heroes, 25-17, 24-26, 21-25, 25-17, 17-15, in the first-ever NCAA Volleyball All-Star.
She was eventually named MVP of the exhibition match.
