TOP international cliff divers will compete against members of the Philippine diving team in the 4th Club Punta Fuego and Rider Cliff Diving Invitational Challenge on March 21 at the Punta del Sol Peninsula in Nasugbu, Batangas.
Brazil's Jucelino de Alves and Swede Andreas Hulliger, who placed first and second in last year’s competition, respectively, are back for the fourth edition of the event which will now be fought from a height of 20 meters from the previous year's 14m.
A total of 23 divers will be vying in the two brackets - Open Class and Juniors Division for bidders in the 8-16 age group - under the scoring system of the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), the international governing body for aquatic sports.
Each dive will be scored from 0 to 10 based on the judge’s impression of the dive and its degree of difficulty – including their initial leap, the number of twists and somersaults, their position during the somersaults, and their entry into the water.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Club Punta Fuego as a co-presenter of this exciting event," said Cecille Loretizo, head of marketing of ELRO Retail Corporation, makers of Rider sandals.
Mikel Arriet Arruiz, general manager of Club Punta Fuego, said: “In support of promoting the sport of cliff diving in the Philippines, we will host the world’s best divers in our world class resort.
"This one-of-a-kind activity will be open to the public and viewers will be treated to a day of aerial prowess performed by homegrown talents and top-ranked international competitors who have had previous experience competing in the global stage.”
