THE Ride of Silence, hosted in cities worldwide, aims to inform motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride also honors those who have been killed or injured.
In the Philippines, the event will be held for the second time. The assembly area is Marikina Freedom Park on May 24 at 6 a.m. The ride will start an hour later.
Organizers said it is a free fun ride and no fees will be collected. Registration is free.
The worldwide Ride of Silence aims to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road, and provide awareness of bicycling safety.
The Ride of Silence will ask its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride.
