PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has suspended classes in public schools in all levels and work in government agencies in Metro Manila and Bulacan on Aug. 25 due to the opening ceremony of the Fiba Basketball World Cup at the Philippine Arena.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Memorandum Circular No. 27 on Tuesday as part of the government’s effort to provide assistance to the Philippine Sports Commission in “ensuring the safe, orderly, and successful opening ceremonies of the Fiba Basketball World Cup.”

Malacañang, however, said government agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters, and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services will continue their operations.
Suspension of classes and work in the private sector is left at their discretion.
The Fiba Basketball World Cup will open on Aug. 25, with local organizers aiming to break the attendance record of 32,616 that was set in 1994 in Canada during the championship game between USA and Russia.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio said Marcos Jr. has accepted their invitation for him to attend the opening rites.
