PJ SIMON had one of the longest careers in the PBA, having played for 16 years with the Magnolia franchise before retiring in 2020.
Having a lengthy career in the pro league was no accident for the player drafted in the fifth round at No. 43 overall. In a recent camp by Simple Grind in Davao, Simon shared the secret of how he kept himself in the league for a long time.
“Hardwork, discipline, and attitude,” said Simon.

Expounding, Simon said he surrounded himself with hardworking teammates, most notably Mark Barroca.
“He is the most hardworking person in the PBA. I tried to at least equal or even surpass his work ethic,” said Simon in the native tongue during the camp.
Simon also urged the campers to aspire to be two-way players in order to play in the big leagues.
“Hindi puwedeng score lang. Defense is important. You have to score the basketball, rebound, and make the right plays,” said Simon.
