Jackson Corpuz joins Pingris with Slam Dunk monikers in 'Pinoy Fukuda'

Nov 2, 2019

JACKSON Corpuz has been gaining the label as the ‘Pinoy Fukuda’ with his looks and his play with Columbian in the PBA.

Fukuda, if you recall, is one of the characters of the basketball anime series Slam Dunk where he plays for Ryonan High School.

Recently, Corpuz was pitted with a player who has also gained a monicker from the well-known series in Magnolia’s Marc Pingris, who is also known as ‘Pinoy Sakuragi.’ Before the Dyip faced the Hotshots last week, an art work was made by Brylle Conrad Co which was centered around the match-up between the ‘Pinoy Fukuda’ and ‘Pinoy Sakuragi.’

Corpuz said he is accepting the ‘Pinoy Fukuda’ monicker.

“Kausap ko nga ‘yung gumawa sa akin. Salamat sa paggawa niya. Sabi ko thank you. Nabibigyan na naman ako ng bagong pangalan,” said Corpuz.

While there has been a lot of artworks already on the ‘Pinoy Fukuda,’ Corpuz said he was surprised that another one was made, this time pitting him against Pingris, who is one of the players he is looking up to.

“Nagulat nga ako sa ginagawa eh,” said Corpuz. “Pagka-tag sa akin, nagustuhan ko rin kasi idol ko rin si Pingris. ‘Yun lang, pangit nilaro ko.”

Corpuz admitted he failed to lived up to the name in that game against Pingris’ Magnolia after he struggled with five points on 2 of 7 shooting from the field along with just one rebound. Pingris had eight points, five rebounds, and two assists in the game.

Corpuz vowed he is eyeing to atone for his struggles against Magnolia as Columbian makes a final push for the playoffs. The Dyip currently have a 4-5 win-loss card for seventh place in the team standings.

“Medyo off night nga ako. Gusto ko nga bumawi. Okay lang. Babawi na lang ako,” said Corpuz.
