LESS THAN two weeks after his official retirement announcement, NBA Canada has released a full-blown tribute site for long-running hoops veteran Vince Carter.
The website includes highlights of the Half Man, Half Amazing's career, as well as a selection of downloadable art prints from a global selection of artists. If you’re looking for new phone wallpapers, you can download the prints for free at thankyouvince.com/vince-carter-print-shop. (Take note that you’ll need to provide your email address.)
Among the artists who contributed these absolutely Vinsane tributes? Pinoy graphic designers AJ Dimarucot and Jayson Atienza.
Dimarucot is no stranger to the hoops world. He has done officially licensed art for athletes in the NBA, NFL, and MLB, and has worked with the Jordan Brand and Nike, among many other clients.
In an Instagram post displaying his art, he said that he was “absolutely blown away and honored” to be part of the art roster for the Vince Carter site.
“This is our gift to the world!” he added.
The print, in stark Raptors purple, shows Carter mid-dunk. A giant V and a Canadian maple leaf appear in the background.
Jayson Atienza’s tribute, meanwhile, is a stylized, more abstract portrait.
Like Dimarucot, Atienza is “extremely honored” to be part of the project to “help celebrate Vince Carter’s retirement.”
Atienza, while born in Batangas, is credited in the site with the Chinese flag, as he is currently based there. He designed art for Jordan 9 Guanghua Flagship Store in Beijing, as well as an art installation for Nike’s Kicks Lounge in Shanghai.
All in all, 15 artists were chosen for the project, including five from the Asia Pacific region.
