Social media went abuzz as nine of the Top 19 trending topics on Twitter in the Philippines were about the Pinay spikers, the game, and the tournament.
The top five trending topics were Molina, #ASEANGrandPrix2019, #LabanPilipinas, Maddie, and Shaq, while Baron and Majoy came in at ninth and 12th, respectively. Alyssa Valdez, despite not being in the team due to injury, was at the No. 19 spot.
The topic "Molina" was refering to open spiker Ces Molina, who trended for all the wrong reasons, as volleyball fans didn't hold back on their opinion about her.
Followers of the sport had different takes on the game, with #ASEANGrandPrix2019 becoming hot topic.
National team head coach Shaq delos Santos wasn't spared the ire. Some even called for 11-time UAAP champion mentor Ramil de Jesus to be his replacement.
Fans couldn't help but wonder if Valdez was there to play for the country, maybe, the result could have been different.
Despite the loss, the Philippines found the silver lining in the newly formed tandem of Majoy Baron and Maddie Madayag.
Netizens even created an NSFW portmanteau of Baron and Madayag's names.
