Petron libero Pia Gaiser shares how pork belly and milk tea unite the Blaze Spikers

In a short chat with SPIN Life on Thursday, after their match against Generika-Ayala in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan, Pia Gaiser shared her secret before every game.

“Pre-game [meal] ko usually, [since] college pa ako, is kumakain ako ng Bon Chon. Bon Chon na chicken tsaka iced tea,” she said.

If fans are wondering what her favorite chicken flavor is, Gaiser babbled it out too.

“Honey citrus ako,” she candidly shared.

As their team bonding after the game or training, the Blaze Spikers love to go to Korean barbecue restaurants and milk tea shops.

“‘Yun yung comfort zone namin, yung kumain sa samgyupsal tsaka sa milktea. Tsaka bonding na rin namin,” she said.

Gaiser also mentioned that she doesn’t follow any kind of strict diet even on-season.

She said that if she feels she’s getting a bit heavier, she doesn’t eat much during dinner and she consumes less rice.

“Imbes na two rice, one rice na lang, or kung one rice, half rice na lang. Yun lang, yun lang yung ginagawa ko and mostly water lang. Bawal mag soft drinks or sweets,” she said.

But Gaiser also disclosed that she enjoys vegetables. She, in fact, eats the vegetables from the packed dinner of her teammates.

After all the food tripping, Gaiser makes sure to burn the calories. Aside from their team training, she does extra work at home.

After tearing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), Gaiser shared that she doesn’t do extra hardcore exercises and just focuses on training and playing volleyball.

“Kasi hindi ako pwede magkaroon ng extra training or something kasi nagweak agad yung muscles ko ganyan-ganyan. So nagfo-focus ako sa volleyball kasi last two months ko na lang sa volleyball so binibigay ko na lahat ng attention ko sa volleyball,” she said.

However, the libero shared that she still does her own set of exercises at home especially if she wants to sweat out.

She stressed that her choice of workout for the day depends on how her body feels.

“Konti lang like I do high-intensity interval training on my own or like off-season I do workouts on my own. I jog siguro mga 30 minutes or one hour or magko-core workout ako,” she said.
