THE PBA achieved a record feat on Father’s Day when it collected a total of 184 bags of blood during its annual blood donation drive at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The total number of bags represented the number of persons who qualified to donate blood for a cause in line with the league’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project through the Alagang PBA program.
The turnout was the biggest number of blood bags ever amassed in the four-year holding of the Alagang PBA: Blood Donation Project being held in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross and Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Commissioner Willie Marcial was among the blood donors along with Rain or Shine rookie Javee Mocon, and our very own SPIN.ph assistant managing editor Karlo Sacamos.
Players also showed up at the green gate of the Big Dome to show their support, among them were Alaska’s Vic Manuel, Sonny Thoss, and Chris Banchero, Sean Anthony, Mo Tautuaa, and rookie Robert Bolick of NorthPort. Rain or Shine’s Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga, Phoenix’s Jason Perkins, Matthew Wright, Willy Wilson, and LA Revilla, Asi Taulava and Cyrus Baguio of NLEX, TnT Katropa’s Don Trollano, Marion Magat, and JK Casino.
Senator Richard Gordon, chairman and CEO of the Philippine Red Cross, lauded the pro league for lending hand for such a worthy cause.
“The PRC is very thtanful that we have partners like the PBA and Smart Araneta Coliseum that help us promote blood donation in the country,” said Gordon. “As we all know, the Philippine Red Cross is known for its bloodletting session and blood centers, We currently have 89 blood facilities all over the nation.”
