ASH Wednesday signals the start of the Lenten season in the Philippines.
And the PBA observes that, with players and coaches still valuing the importance of the occasion despite their loaded schedules.
Foreheads were marked with ashes at Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday in what has now been an annual tradition the league has been observing.
"Every year, nagpupunta ako dito. Nire-request ako ni Comm. Willie Marcial at nati-tyempo naman na may games," said Gonzago Flores, the lay minister who has been a staple in PBA's observance of the occasion.
For Flores, it's a good sight to see that the league still takes time to partake on these religious activities.
"At least, malapit pa rin sila sa Diyos. Nagagabayan sila ng Panginoon despite of the odds at nandyan pa din sila," he said.
