PASIG CITY lent its local urban command center to its professional chess team, as the squad competed in the first-ever inter-City online tournament organized by the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP).
Mayor Vico Sotto went all in with the support of the athletes, cheering on the Pasig City King Pirates as they began their tournament last weekend.
“Naglalaro po sila sa kauna-unahang professional chess tournament ng PCAP. Good luck team!” Sotto wrote on Twitter as he shared a photo of the ongoing match.
FIDE International Chess Federation members and local pro woodpushers Gerry Nudalo and Ferdinand Palermo, a finalist of the recent MCC 1900 (Maritime Chess Club), were its representatives.
In a Facebook post shared by the official page of the King Pirates, they also held a meeting with the 31-year-old Mayor before the tournament.
