MALACAÑANG on Friday clarified sports personalities Hidilyn Diaz and Gretchen Ho are not part of the ‘matrix’ of persons tagged for their alleged involvement in a plot to destabilize the Duterte administration.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo told reporters that the media as well as Diaz and Ho are at fault for 'wrongly analyzing' the diagrams released by the Palace in a briefing last Wednesday.
Panelo explained Diaz and Ho’s names were showed in the diagrams as part of the personalities that Metrobalita webmaster Rodel Jayme, or more popularly known as ‘Bikoy,’ is following on social media.
Panelo also made it clear the names of Diaz and Ho were not mentioned during that press conference.
“The diagram contained in the slide includes other accounts Mr Jayme is actively following, to visualize his character, as well as his political and social interests. It is in this context that the names of Misses Ho and Diaz appeared,” Panelo said.
“In sum, there has been a wrong analysis of the diagram by some media outfits which in turn made the basis of a wrong analysis and conclusions by readers and personalities including Misses Ho and Diaz,” Panelo added.
Diaz, silver medalist in the 2016 Rio Olympics, has cried foul over the inclusion of her name in the Palace matrix, saying it has become a distraction while she prepares for the Southeast Asian Games and the 2020 Tokyo Games qualifiers.
The reigning Asian Games champion said the incident has made her fear for her safety and that of her family.
Ho has issued the same denial.
Panelo, however, said he will not be apologizing for the names of Diaz and Ho being dragged into the ‘matrix' controversy.
“No, I think those who should apologize are those who wrongly analyzed,” Panelo was quoted as saying by Rappler.
