It’s a sad day for music fans because one of the legendary pioneers of Pinoy rock, Joey “Pepe” Smith, passed away this morning at the age of 71. Smith reportedly suffered a stroke years ago but has not been taking any medication.
Way back in 1974, as Juan dela Cruz, Pepe Smith, Mike Hanopol, and Wally Gonzalez released the groundbreaking album “Himig Natin,” whose title track would eventually define the sound of Pinoy rock and solidify themselves as music royalty.
Fans paid tribute to the father of Pinoy rock and OPM, via social media.
