NO need to travel for 12 hours just to savor the famous Water Sports Park in Camarines Sur.
Pampanga vice governor Dennis Pineda takes pride at his recently opened world class, Olympic size wakeboarding facility that is almost at par with its counterpart in the Bicol region.
The water sports and adventure spot is built at a vast land in Prado Siongco in Lubao town, which the sports-minded politician also wants to develop as a sports center.
Pineda said the tedious travel one had to bear going to Camarines Sur to try out its Water Sports Park gave him the idea to built one just outside Metro Manila.
“Marami kasing mga kababayan natin ang bumibiyahe pa ng labing dalawang oras patungong CamSur para lang makapag-wakeboarding. Kaya nag-pagawa kami ng ganito,” said Pineda of his facility which began servicing the public last week in the time for the Lenten break.
“Saka ginawa naming mas world class ito, pwede naming ipagmalaki ito. Hindi kami gumagamit ng liner, we have regeneration lake, kung saan 24 hours nalilinis `yung tubig, without using any chemical,” he said.
The new wakeboarding site is already girded with villas and hotel rooms to cater to the needs of its clients.
“Actually, marami nang gustong pumunta. Sa ngayon, limited pa lang tinatanggap namin. Pero year round itong bukas,” said the son of Pampanga governor Lilia Pineda.
Aside from the wakeboarding facility, Pineda bared the construction of an 18-hole golf course is now in progress at the posh vicinity, which has been named Pravera Verde.
The agent of PBA stars Calvin Abueva and Ian Sangalang also bared his plans of creating basketball, baseball, and tennis facilities inside the said area.
“Gusto naming maging isa sa mga kilalang sports mecca ang Pampanga. We have been very active in discovering talents not just in basketball, but also in other sports, kaya we’re providing them facilities,” said the Pampanga vice-governor.
Asked if he’ll one day bid to host the Palarong Pambansa and other major multi-sporting events, Pineda was non-committal yet.
“Siguro, hindi pa sa ngayon. Nagsisimula pa lang kaming mag-contruct, pero one day, why not? Alam naman natin kung gaano kahilig at kagaling sa sports ang mga kababayan natin dito,” he said.
