TO say that Detdet Pepito has a lot on her plate on and off the taraflex is quite an understatement.
The 22-year old Golden Tigresses libero/ captain is a fourth-year elementary education student at University of Santo Tomas, a championship-chasing volleyball player in UAAP Season 87, and a teacher in her on-the-job training.
The multi-tasking spiker admitted finding time for her internship at a public school in Manila is quite difficult, especially when she recently had her practice teaching to Grade 3 students on astronomy-related subjects.

“‘Di ko po alam kung paano ko naba-balance. Sakripisyo lang talaga kasi since Grade 7 ako, elementary student athlete na ako,” said Pepito.
“It’s how you manage your time and priorities. Medyo haggard lang kasi mga bata tinuturuan ko kaya pasensya lang talaga.”

It helps that some of her students recognize her as a UAAP star.
“Meron po (nakakakilala sa’kin). Actually lahat sila ng mga bata. Tinutulungan lang po ako ng cooperating teacher ko po na iwasan makipaghalubilo na bilang player so ‘pag nandun ako, talagang teacher ako,” she said.
Pepito said being a student-athlete and a captain of a young Golden Tigresses squad has armed her with the essential attributes to manage the classroom, the same was she takes charge for her team in the taraflex.
“Same lang na masaya tapos maii-stress, magagalit. Pare-parehas lang po sila. Mas makukulit lang po yung mga bata (sa clasroom) at mababait din po talaga mga teammates ko.”
