LIONEL Messi has cracked open an unlikely world record.
After beating France and being crowned as a world champion in the just-concluded Fifa World Cup 2022, the Argentinian football star has scrambled the algorithms to emerge as the guy with the most-liked post on Instagram.
A victory post with the caption “CAMPEONES DEL MUNDO!!!!!!!” has now gained more than 72.2 million likes as of this writing.
The number of likes has surpassed the previous record of a picture of an egg with 58.3 million likes. The picture of an egg was uploaded last 2019 for the express purpose of becoming the most-liked post on the social network, which it did after surpassing the likes on a Kylie Jenner post.
Other posts of Messi also racking up likes in the millions
Two of Messi’s other posts are also close to poaching the egg’s new second place status.
A shot of him with the Fifa World Cup trophy while in bed now has 52.4 million likes, or about 5.7 million likes away from beating the ‘Egg’ anew.
Then, there’s this picture of Las Albiceleste on their way home to Argentina, which now has 40.8 million likes as of posting.
