CAPTAIN Marvel has been showing in theaters for more than a week now, and Avengers: Endgame is just waiting in the wings to add more to the collection of Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbusters. And we’ve all assumed that certain things will be definitely happening: the Avengers will McGyver their way to victory via time travel, Thanos will die or be tossed into a remote planet, and the likes of Black Panther and Spider-Man will be saved from ever biting the dust.
But, Marvel is taking these things to new heights with some reimagining of the decades-worth events that led us to this day. What if Thanos successfully invaded Earth through Loki in the battle of New York back in the first Avengers film in 2012? What if Peter Parker focused instead on fixing his real-life problems instead of fighting crime? What if the Incredible Hulk, despite what we all think, had always had the brain of Bruce Banner? These are just some examples that we came up with that we might see when Marvel explores the things they can do with their What If? animated show that’s reportedly being developed for Disney’s new streaming site, Disney +.
Marvel’s What If? was a comic anthology series that started way back in 1977 that showcased various alternate outcomes of otherwise historical Marvel events. One of the first questions proposed by this series was “What if the Avengers had never been?” The MCU we know and love today would be totally different if that ever happened. Some were total fan service to solve great nerd arguments like “What if Venom possessed The Punisher?” What would Eddie Brock be doing with his life? One hilarious question even went as far as asking “What if a spider had been bitten by a radioactive human?" Honestly, we’d spend our subscription just watching that.
The idea is thought that Marvel could potentially bring some of the main actors from the live-action MCU to reprise their roles for the animated series. They’d spend much less time behind the mic than they do for live-action filming, so we don’t doubt one bit that it’d be easier to call in the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Tom Holland, and Chris Pratt. Plus, the series would function as an anthology, dealing with different premises in every episode.
We don’t know about you, but we couldn’t be more excited as to how this would turn out, and we already have a list of our own "what if" questions that need answering:
- What if the super soldier serum wasn’t successful on Steve Rogers?
- What if Bucky Barnes became the first Captain America?
- What if Tony Stark never stopped selling weapons of mass destruction?
- What if The Hulk killed Black Widow back when she was recruiting him?
- What if Ultron sided with the Avengers?
- What if Killmonger defeated Black Panther?
