MEET LUCE, the anime-looking mascot that the Vatican introduced for the upcoming 2025 Jubilee Year.

With her chibi-esque design, her yellow raincoat, blue hair, rosary around her neck, and a walking stick, Luce serves as a ray of light to the community. In fact the name, 'Luce,' means light in the Italian language.

And by deeply assessing her overall design, Luce will be involved in a pilgrimage, which is one of the themes of the 2025 Jubilee year.

The character was designed by Simone Legno, the Italian pop artist behind the tokidoki brand, renowned for its anime-inspired toys, apparel, and cosmetics.

When discussing why the Vatican has created an anime-esque character, Archbishop Fisichella, the one responsible for organizing the 2025 Jubilee year, said that "The mascot was inspired by the Church's desire 'to live even within the pop culture so beloved by our youth.'

Eventually more details were revealed about Luce, where she would also make an appearance in the Holy See's pavilion, alongside the 17th-century painting "The Entombment of Christ," at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
