IN glitzy and glamorous Hollywood fashion, the Los Angeles Lakers are capitalizing on Kobe Bryant’s final run in the purple and gold.
Fans of the Black Mamba will have to shell out serious cash for commemorative merchandise to be sold in the Staples Center and the Lakers online store, notably a limited edition ball cap worth US$38,024. And no, this isn’t a typo, folks.
The hat manufactured by New Era is made of lambskin and snakeskin, in reference to Kobe’s ‘Black Mamba’ persona. On the cap’s front is the No. 24 that contains 3.5 ounces of 18-karat gold. Only eight have been made.
There is also another Kobe Bryant diamond-fitted hat that sells for $24,008.24
For those with limited budgets but wish to relive Bryant’s highlights, the Lakers’ official store will also sell jerseys with snakeskin texture ($824) and lambskin jacket ($5,824), among others.
If you don’t want to break the bank there are framed photos and tank tops. The least expensive is a t-shirt ($38.24). All items are licensed by the NBA and Bryant’s company, Kobe Inc.
“This city is all about spectacle. Derek Jeter might have represented the blue-collar people of New York, but Kobe is more about Showtime, so we had to think of diamonds and gold,” AEG vice president Sean Ryan told ESPN.
