In all honesty, NBA fans will bite at anything they see online and jump to the weirdest conclusions. And that’s more evident now than ever on Twitter when Kobe Bryant mentioned Kawhi Leonard in one of his tweets. Los Angeles Lakers fans were sent into a frenzy over the possibility of Kawhi joining their team during the upcoming free agency season.
The Lakers face will still be testing these next few months despite not even being in action during the playoffs — Magic Johnson resigned from his post as Lakers president, and Luke Walton also lost his job as head coach. And they will need to act fast to find some worthy replacements of the people they’ve lost, especially with the NBA draft coming up.
But what may arguably be more important for the Lakers is the upcoming free agency market. A host of the NBA's best players could potentially be available for the picking. Luckily for the purple and gold, they’ve created enough cap space for one max salary slot.
Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard will headline the free agency market, the latter of which the Lakers tried to trade for last summer. Unfortunately, though, the San Antonio Spurs refused to do business with the Lakers back then, but reports at the time still suggested that Leonard still had Los Angeles in mind for free agency in 2019.
The Lakers are hopeful that the lure of playing alongside LeBron James will be enough to win the battle for his signature this time around.
And Lakers fans got excited about their chances of signing Leonard following some comments from Kobe Bryant.
Kobe, tweeting about the latest episode of DETAIL on ESPN+, tweeted about the "phenomenal progress" Leonard has made since entering the league back in 2011.
And Lakers fans immediately took that as a sign that the five-time NBA champion was trying to recruit Leonard to the Staples Center. Crazy, right? But you can’t blame them—Lakers fans are desperate to jump back into a new season with new hope that someone like Kawhi Leonard may bring.
What do you guys think? Is Kawhi L.A. bound?
