THE Order of the Knights of Rizal (OKOR) will stage a unity run entitled 'Bagong Simula sa Kilometro' on Sunday for the benefit of Typhoon Yolanda survivors.
The race starts at 5 a.m. at the iconic Rizal Monument, Luneta Park with the finish line at the 100-year mausoleum of national hero, Jose P. Rizal. Runners may choose to run in the 3 kilometer, 5k and 10k races along Roxas Boulevard.
The 3km starts at the Rizal Monument to the Manila Yacht Club and back while the 5km goes up to the Cultural Center of the Philippines and back. The 10km runs up to Buendia back to the Monument.
Cash prizes will be given to winners in each category. There will be post-event entertainment provided by dance performers and musical bands.
Romero encouraged every participant to wear white as a symbol of the country’s appreciation to the overwhelming support from the international community.
”Let us return to our roots, starting from 'Kilometer Zero' as one nation while we give thanks and remember the gratefulness of Filipinos worldwide. Just like Rizal, we are no stranger to adversity but we have the strength and character to rise up from the wreckage with sense of pride and dignity intact,” Romero said
Romero said the OKOR has already gathered 10,000 signees after the three-month long word-of-mouth campaign but expects more participants on race day.
Registration fees are P450 for the 3k, P550 for the 5k and P650 for the 10k. All registrants will receive commemorative singlets.
