FROM Taft to the pros, Kianna Dy has emerged as a household name in Philippine volleyball.

For starters, the 29-year-old PLDT winger carries a decorated sporting resume all the way back from her multi-titled run with La Salle in the UAAP with three titles and a finals MVP plum to her name.

But it isn’t just on the taraflex where her beauty and brawns have shone brightly as of late.

KKD has taken social media by storm with her dancing prowess — sort of — taking center stage on TikTok.

A quick check on the said social media platform would show that Dy, with 1.3 million followers and 56.3 million likes on the platform, has gained quite the traction with her dance videos in particular.

All of her most recent dances with either family or teammates have been viewed over a million times each, with her and teammate Majoy Baron’s performance of Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s ‘luther’ already at 4.6 million views.

But it doesn’t stop there.

The rest of the ever-so active Filipino presence on TikTok caught wind of what has since been tagged as the ‘Kianna Dy School of Dancing’ and would upload their videos on the platform as application videos or exam submissions which the High Speed Hitter would even notice and reply to at times.

From viral dance hits such as 'Everyday' by Ariana Grande ft. Future, Filipino group GAT's 'Daleng-Dale,' and K-pop group Momoland's 'BAAM," any trend, any groove, and anything goes in KKD's school of dancing — with 'international students' even trying out the moves for themselves.

The catch in it all? Dy isn’t even a dancer per se. The way she puts it, ‘I can dance, just no rhythm.’

As such, those who struggle to dance or those who simply dance for the sake of it are considered to be the ‘passers’ in KKD’s dancing school.

And even some PVL competitors have hopped onto the trend in the midst of what is expected to be a lengthy offseason break.

‘Everyone can dance’

How did all of these even begin, you ask?

“It was just for fun,” Dy shared with SPIN.ph.

“Me and Majoy would try to do dances. People would make fun of it kasi siyempre, hindi naman kami magaling.

“It’s fun for us to dance, to learn, and then to dance again, and then to post it and look funny.”

All jokes aside, this dancing school phenomenon has been more than just another trend or craze on TikTok.

What a non-dancer like Dy takes pride in the most is how this trend became a confidence-booster of sorts for anyone to enjoy and be themselves without the fear of public scrutiny.

For as long as you can move and somehow groove, then why not make the most of it, right?

“It’s very nice to see people dancing. Even if you’re not good at dancing, everyone can dance. It just matters if you have the rhythm or not,” Dy said.

“I would say I can dance, just no rhythm. But anyone can dance, you just have to be confident.”
