A little superstition won't hurt for NLEX Road Warriors star Kevin Alas, who has sustained the same injury on the same right knee at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Kevin, who's already fully recovered from the injury, was told to bring liquor and perform a ritual at the venue, where he tore his ACL twice. The first time happened during the 2018 Philippine Cup, when he was forced to sit out the rest of the season. Last February, he suffered another one in the same conference.
To shoo away bad luck, teammate Kiefer Ravena suggested that he should try the alcohol trick.
Iniwan ko after," Alas shared to a handful of sportswriters Wednesday night.
He added, "Yeah, wala namang masamang maniwala eh.
Ravena explained the reason behind the superstitious belief.
"Well, 'di ba sa'ting mga Pinoy, pag may mga inuman, sa mga kanto-kanto, 'yung unang bukas ng gin, tapon muna 'yan for the bad spirits. Lahat kami nag-agree doon," he said. Buti nag-pay off."
Alas bared that what he did helped him loosen up a bit: "Of course, malaking bagay 'yung psychological kasi dito nangyari pareho 'yung injury ko. Sana pagbalik ko wala na 'yung takot. Kasi alam ko may two games pa kami rito.”
But superstitions aside, Alas was glad to share that he is ready to play any time.
He related, "Yeah, balik na ko, three weeks siguro.
