James Yap takes time off work to celebrate daughter's first birthday

ATHLETES rarely ask for a break during season, they even play through pain or injury, while some still play ball even on Christmas day.

Special reasons, however, will make any player drop everything.

For the first time in his 15-year career in the PBA, James Yap asked for a week off while the season was still ongoing.

The two-time MVP flew to Italy to be with his family as they celebrated the first birthday of his adorable daughter, Francesca.

“Nakapag-spend time ng first birthday ng daughter ko," Yap said. "Masaya kasi ‘yun talaga ang goal ko na first birthday ng baby ko [ma-celebrate namin as a family] kasi hindi mo na ‘yun mababalik, ‘di ba? Kaya nagpaalam ako sa team, salamat sa Rain or Shine, kay coach Caloy and sa coaching staff at naintindihan nila.”

James was away from June 23 to 30 as he spent quality time with his children, MJ and Francesca, and partner Michela in her home country.

“Matagal sila doon eh, two months sila doon. So bago ako humabol naka-almost one month na sila doon,” he shared.

The 37-year-old cager also took advantage of the time off to recuperate from his groin injury.

“Masaya nakapag-bonding, especially sa mga kids and then konting party doon sa Italy,” he said. “Nakapagpahinga rin ako kasi ‘di ba na-injured ako sa groin kaya ngayon game na ito healthy na, wala nang nararamdaman.”
