Various transportation and accommodation gaffes marred the arrival of several national squads for the SEA Games this weekend.
On Sunday, photos of the Cambodian national football squad splayed out on a hotel room floor went viral on social media. Later that day, the Football Association of Thailand said in a Facebook post that it would need to order additional food and water for its players.
The hotel where both teams are staying issued its own statement to address the issues faced by the two football teams.
"The signed agreement with the organizers include accommodations with standard check-in time of 2:00 PM," explained Century Park Hotel Manila in a statement released on their Facebook page.
However, the Cambodian players began arriving as early as the night before. With a standard check out time of 12 noon, the hotel could not give them their rooms right away, as they were already fully booked.
While some team members were able to check in by 8:25 AM, "as goodwill, we offered our function rooms to serve as their temporary holding area after their breakfast," continued the statement.
They added: "We asked them if they needed more chairs but they declined, preferring the floors so they could lie down to rest."
As for the concerns of the Thai team, the hotel defended itself by saying that food was provided to the team according to a standard cycle menu, and that two bottles of water per person per day was the industry standard.
They concluded by saying, "We will strive to make the SEA Games delegation’s stay a memorable one in the coming days."
